This former FDIC program consists of five modules designed to enhance the critical decision-making process for interior-positioned firefighters and fire officers. Participants will review the fundamentals of fire behavior while modernizing their knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) related to PPE, SCBA, TICs, fire dynamics, and air management to improve tactical decision-making. This presentation will focus on implementing these concepts within departments operating with minimally staffed apparatus, recognizing that staffing challenges affect everyone. Participants will review the latest UL and NIST fire dynamics studies and explore how this research applies to making critical Go/No-Go decisions on the fireground. Attendees will learn best practices for size-up, reading the neutral plane, determining the seat of the fire, interpreting smoke conditions, and understanding effective operational strategies for short-handed crews. The goal of this program is to provide advanced knowledge and practical tools that allow firefighters and officers to remain traditionally aggressive on the interior while reducing the risk of injury or death in today’s increasingly hostile fire environments.
