In the fast-paced world of EMS, early recognition of shock is crucial for preventing rapid deterioration and improving patient outcomes. This one-hour session explores the concept of the Shock Index, a simple yet powerful tool for identifying patients at risk of decompensation before traditional vital signs become concerning.
Through a focused review of shock pathophysiology, compensatory mechanisms, and real-world applications, participants will gain a practical understanding of how to incorporate the Shock Index into field assessments, clinical decision-making, and treatment priorities.
This session will provide EMS providers with a valuable tool to enhance early recognition of shock, identify patients who may be at risk for deterioration, and improve timely intervention in the prehospital environment.
