Dr. Junhong (June) Wang received her Ph.D. in Atmospheric Science from Columbia University. After graduation, she worked as a postdoctoral scientist at the University of Colorado Boulder and then as a scientist at the Earth Observing Laboratory (EOL) at the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) for 15 years. June is currently the Director of the New York State Mesonet (NYSM) and a Research Associate Professor in the Department of Atmospheric and Environmental Sciences at the University at Albany. Dr. Wang is an international leader in weather and climate observations and networks, surface and upper-air instrumentation and data quality, and ground-based GNSS meteorology. She has created several climate datasets to study climate variability and change and the global water cycle. She has played leadership roles in the design, implementation, and operation of two observational networks: the Global Climate Observing System Reference Upper-Air Network and the New York State Mesonet. She currently serves as Vice-Chair of the Standing Committee on Measurements, Instrumentation and Traceability (SC-MINT) at the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and is a Fellow of the American Meteorological Society (AMS). June is also passionate about education and has been actively involved in K–12, undergraduate, graduate, and public education throughout her career.

New York State Mesonet - A Decade of Early Warning Weather Detection and Decision Support (Wednesday, October 21, 2026 - 1:00-1:30pm)
This presentation will provide an overview of the New York State Mesonet (NYSM) from 2015 to 2026, highlighting a decade of advancements in early weather detection and decision support. The session will explore the Mesonet’s features, observational capabilities, data management, and benefits to emergency management, public safety, forecasting, research, and other users. Participants will learn how high-quality, real-time weather observations can enhance situational awareness and support informed decision-making before and during hazardous weather events.
Summit speakers will participate in a roundtable discussion addressing flooding disasters across the country from an emergency management perspective. Panelists will share experiences, lessons learned, challenges, and best practices related to flood preparedness, response, recovery, and mitigation. The discussion will provide participants with practical insights into how communities and emergency management agencies can better prepare for and respond to significant flooding events.
