Jeremy Thomasson is a senior EMS and air medical professional with more than 25 years of experience in prehospital, critical care, and flight medicine, including over a decade in progressive leadership roles. He has served as an EMS Director, Air Medical Base Supervisor, Field Training Officer, and Outreach Educator, with responsibility for clinical operations, provider development, quality improvement, and program performance.
Jeremy has instructed a wide range of EMS, critical care, and leadership programs and has coordinated continuing education for EMS agencies through NAEMT, AHA, ITLS, and internal education initiatives. His teaching style emphasizes assessment-driven care, clinical reasoning, and practical decision-making in high-acuity, resource-variable environments.
In addition to his clinical and leadership work, Jeremy is the founder of Flight Level Fitness, an education-focused initiative dedicated to improving the health, performance, and longevity of EMS and fire service professionals. Flight Level Fitness integrates evidence-based nutrition, physiology, and human performance principles into practical, field-applicable strategies designed for shift work and high-stress operational settings. His work focuses on building resilience, optimizing cognitive performance, and promoting long-term career sustainability for first responders.
Analgesia and sedation are essential components of pediatric prehospital care; however, assessment and ongoing management can be challenging. This lecture focuses on evaluating the need for sedation and analgesia, understanding the unique physiologic considerations of pediatric patients, and selecting appropriate pharmacologic agents to provide safe and effective care.
Participants will explore assessment methods for identifying pain, anxiety, and clinical indicators that guide sedation and analgesia decisions. The presentation will discuss key physiologic factors affecting pediatric pain management, including age-related differences, developmental considerations, and how these factors influence patient response and treatment choices.
Additionally, this lecture will review pharmacologic considerations for commonly used sedation and analgesia agents in pediatric patients, including indications, contraindications, dosing considerations, potential effects, and safe administration practices. Through this discussion, providers will gain a better understanding of how to approach pediatric sedation and analgesia with confidence while improving the quality of care delivered in the prehospital setting.
