ADHD In EMS - Exploring the Path of Neurodivergent Thinking (Thursday, October 22, 2026 - 2:15-3:30pm)

This session offers unique insights and lessons gained from the experiences of EMS professionals with ADHD (Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder). The goal is to shed light on how neurodivergent thinking influences high-pressure decision-making, adaptability, and resilience among EMS responders at all levels.

There are strengths often associated with ADHD, such as creativity, hyperfocus, and rapid problem-solving, but there are also challenges, including time management, impulsivity, shutdown, and potential burnout. Join us to gain a deeper understanding of ADHD traits as assets within the EMS profession while fostering greater inclusivity, awareness, and understanding.

Participants will explore the concept of neurodivergence within the context of Emergency Medical Services and identify common ADHD/AuDHD traits that may be present among EMS professionals. The session will also provide strategies for creating more inclusive work environments that recognize individual strengths, support neurodiverse team members, and promote a culture where all providers can succeed.
