This lecture will review patient characteristics that allow for early consideration of ECMO, including inclusion and exclusion criteria specific to both VV and VA ECMO. Participants will explore the decision-making process for identifying appropriate ECMO candidates, as well as techniques to minimize transport times while performing safe and effective CPR.
Attendees will learn how to identify patients who may be candidates for VA and VV ECMO and gain a better understanding of the clinical considerations involved in selecting the appropriate therapy. The session will provide strategies for rapid transport and review the communication steps necessary to safely coordinate the transfer of patients to an ECMO center. Participants will leave with practical tools to improve decision-making, streamline transport processes, and enhance care for critically ill patients requiring advanced mechanical support.
