Aaron maintains a full-time clinical role while serving as Special Faculty in Creighton University’s Department of Paramedicine. He is also a frequent speaker at local, state, and regional continuing education events. Aaron has more than 15 years of experience across various areas of emergency medicine, including clinical, urban, suburban, rural, and austere international environments.
Additionally, Aaron served as a sworn law enforcement officer for five years with both rural and urban law enforcement agencies. He holds a Master’s degree in Paramedicine and a Bachelor’s degree in Emergency Medical Services, both from Creighton University. His research and professional interests include prehospital airway management, bringing critical care-level care to the prehospital environment, and first responder mental health.
20 Etomidate, 100 of Succ,” is a phrase we hear again and again on popular dramatic television shows, and many paramedics are drawn to Rapid Sequence Induction (RSI) with a sense of simplicity. However, the reality is much more complex, and every patient should have a tailored approach to this procedure.
This presentation will provide paramedics with an overview of a patient-centered approach to RSI medication selection, with the goal of optimizing hemodynamics and ultimately improving patient outcomes.
Prehospital care providers are faced with making split-second decisions daily, often with profound implications on patient outcomes. However, as the adage goes, “the patient doesn’t read the protocols,” often holds true, and providers are frequently required to make decisions in situations that fall outside the ordinary.
These situations rely on a provider’s understanding of pathophysiology and critical thinking skills to manage complex presentations. This presentation will focus on four cases in which airway management was complicated by complex physiology and highlight key learning points attendees can apply to their own practice.
