Melissa Padulsky is a dedicated EMS professional with 25 years of experience as a New Jersey EMT. She currently volunteers with two EMS organizations and has spent the past 20 years educating the next generation of providers as a CPR and EMT instructor.
Melissa serves as the EMT Coordinator for the Somerset County Emergency Services Training Academy, where she is committed to advancing EMS education and professional development. She is also a swimmer/medic with the Region 4 Rescue Team for the American Power Boat Association (APBA).
Approximately 1 in 100 children are born with a congenital heart defect (CHD). Many children may have no signs or symptoms of their CHD until the condition becomes critical.
This presentation will discuss some of the more common congenital heart defects in children, how they present, and potential treatment options. Participants will learn to identify common CHDs, recognize signs and symptoms of pediatric patients experiencing cardiac-related issues, and understand the assessment considerations when caring for these patients.
The session will also explore treatment options and management strategies for children experiencing complications related to their congenital heart defect. Through discussion of these conditions and their presentations, attendees will gain a better understanding of how early recognition and appropriate intervention can impact outcomes for pediatric cardiac patients.
