Jeff Chandler began his fire service career in 1985 serving in both volunteer and career departments. He continues to volunteer in his hometown in CT. Simultaneously, while in the fire service, from 1993 until 2000, he worked as an environmental contractor responding to hazardous materials incidents for emergency mitigation and site remediation. He started with the CT Department of Environmental Protection, Hazardous Materials – Emergency Response Unit as an Emergency Response Coordinator in 2001. In 2005, he was promoted to Supervisor. He was the Supervisor of the Southern Region, which encompassed the heavily industrious I-95 Corridor, whcih is the busiest region in CT. The HM-ERU responds statewide to over 2500 incidents as the lead ESF-10 agency for Hazardous Materials mitigation and remediation. He Retired from CT DEP HMERU in 2021 and took a position with General Dynamics – Electric Boat as the Fire Chief. Presently, he is working with First Choice Safety Solutions as the Manager of Special Operation training in CT. He has been a contributing editor to Pennwell Publications including Fire Engineering Magazine’s publication and Fire Engineering’s online Training Minutes and will soon be developing the HazMat Program on their online learning platform, The Fire Academy. He has delivered training across CT and RI as well as presenting as a keynote speaker and class presenter at the NY State HazMat Conference, and as a presenter at both the IAFC International Hazardous Materials Conference and FDIC International.
