I am a Captain and Paramedic in Barnstable, MA. I am an alumnus of the University of New Hampshire where earned a Bachelor’s Degree with a dual major in Kinesiology and Justice Studies. My undergraduate studies allowed me the opportunity to intern with the New Hampshire State Fire Marshal’s Office, where I was introduced to youth firesetting. I joined the Barnstable Fire Department as a call firefighter in 2005 after completing my undergraduate degree. In 2006 I returned to the University of New Hampshire to complete a Master’s Degree in Justice Studies, and again work with the New Hampshire State Fire Marshal’s Office and completed a graduate project pertaining to youth firesetting. Upon completion of my graduate degree, I returned to the Barnstable Fire Department and began by fulltime firefighting career there in 2008. I have held the position of Firefighter/EMT, Firefighter/Paramedic, EMS Officer and now I am a shift Captain. I lead the departments Community Risk Reduction Program and visit the schools and senior housing complexes each year as well as manage the SAFE and Senior SAFE programs. I am a CPSE credentials fire officer, and hold Massachusetts State Chief Fire Officer Credentialing. I am a certified Massachusetts EMS Instructor/ Coordinator and Co-Instruct the EMT program at the Cape Cod Community College. I am an instructor with the Massachusetts State Fire Academy and hold additional degrees from Columbia Southern University in Associate of Applied Science-Fire Science, Bachelor of Science-Fire Administration and Associate of Applied Science-Emergency Medical Services. In 2021 there was a noticeable need in my community to have a Youth firesetting intervention Program. Through a year and a half of preparation, recruitment and training of potential members, this program is now up and running and is supported by the Cape and Islands Fire Chief’s Association as well as the Cape and Islands District Attorney’s Office. This program offers a great service to our community, and is a phenomenal example of a team approach in creating a youth firesetting program, in that is covers partners in law, fire, courts, mental health schools and social services. I live on Cape Cod with my wife of 7 years along with our 5 year old son and 2 year old daughter.
