Meghan works for the Town of Newington Fire Marshal’s Office and Office of Emergency Management. She is also a firefighter with the Newington Fire Department, where she also serves as the Captain of the Fire Prevention Bureau. Meghan studied hoarding extensively throughout her undergraduate and graduate careers, and has continued to pursue her passion for the subject by attending ongoing training and certification courses, as well as through her work on a variety of local and statewide efforts.
Locally, Meghan assists code enforcement with home inspections and coordinates with other relevant town agencies to effectively and successfully mitigate the hazards associated with hoarding. On a more widespread level, Meghan has assisted with the coordination and facilitation of the statewide initiative known as the Connecticut Hoarding Working Group. The Group has effectively influenced local, state, and legislative changes regarding response to the issue, has led to an improvement in the level and amount of training and resources available to professionals from a variety of backgrounds, and has successfully brought the previously taboo subject of hoarding to the forefront so as to influence positive growth and change in this area.
